Email Discussion and Vote from 05/10/2006 to 05/17/2006
Proposed by: Jason Halprin

Text of Proposal:

Background
-----------
Charles Laws has requested that he be replaced on the Green Party of the United States Platform Committee. To read Charles Laws' plea, go here: http://www.dasbistro.com/pipermail/nvgreen/2006-April/003751.html

The procedures for membership on the Platform Committee are here: http://gp.org/committees/platform/policies.shtml

**Genelle Baltutis' Statement 4/27/2006:**
Hi-

I wanted to make it known that I volunteered to take Charles' place on the Platform Committee. I am not sure what the process is for being placed on this committee, so I'm emailing with why I want to be on the platform committee, and why I think I would be a good candidate for this position.

I want to be on the Platform Committee because I think the platform is extremely important. I see it as not only the platform of the Green Party, but as a work in progress which could one day be used in the event of the current failing system breaking down literally at all levels. I have read the platform in its entirety (finally) and feel it is a document which has serious potential in this way. Also, I want to be on the Platform Committee because I enjoy the political discourse, learning about issues I never knew about, and discussing in detail others' views on issues I want to think and know more about.

I think I would be a good candidate for this position because I write fairly well, I take time to make my points clear, I listen to others, and the ten key values are important to me. I have studied and worked with consensus decision-making, I pay attention to details, am respectful of the consensus "process" and making sure all are heard and included, and I generally follow through on what I say I'm going to do.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss any concerns, please email me.

Please let me know how to proceed from here- I don't want to be the default last-resort candidate everyone feels uneasy about!

Respectfully,
Genelle Baltutis

**Genelle Baltutis' Statement on 5/4/2006:**
Hi-

I emailed a week ago regarding the process as to how to be on the platform committee, but haven't received a response. I know several folks are on this list, so there may be an assumption that the email was answered, so I'm emailing to let everyone know that it wasn't...

The problem is Charles Laws has asked me for a bio to send to the platcom list about me, but I feel uncomfortable writing one until I have some sort of idea as to what I'm supposed to do to get appointed or elected or whatever the process is through the local/state party.

Please advise...
Thanks!
Genelle

Prosposal
-----------
The Executive Council of the Green Party of Nevada appoints Genelle Baltutis to be our only member to the Platform Committee, replacing Charles Laws. Charles Laws will no longer be a Green Party of Nevada member on the Green Party of the United States Platform Committee.

Furthermore, we set up the following guidelines to go into effect immediately and to be used as a suggested amendment to the Green Party of Nevada bylaws regarding Green Party of Nevada members of the Platform Committee:

1) Each member will report to the nvgreen@dasbistro.com e-mail list at least once every month and/or as often as is necessary given current discussion and voting in the committee. In the event that the Green Party of Nevada has more than one member to the Platform Committee, these members may submit a combined monthly report if desired by the Platform Committee members. This report will contain details of each vote and each discussion participated in and have explanations for periods of nonparticipation.

2) Each member is able to cast a vote according to their own discretion.

3) Each member will serve on the Platform Committee for a two-year term, starting on the 1st of the month the member is appointed and ending two years later on the last day of the month prior to the month appointed. For example, if a member is appointed on May 15, 2006, their term will last until April 30, 2008.

4) The Green Party of Nevada Executive Council may revoke Green Party of Nevada members of the Platform Committee at any time by a consensus of all the members of the Executive Council.

5) Registered Greens in Nevada may revoke Green Party of Nevada members of the Platform Committee by a 2/3 super majority vote at any Green Party of Nevada state meeting.
